Abstract (en)
An overvoltage protection device having enhanced error safety consists of a gas-filled overvoltage suppressor (1), which is known per se and of a thermal protection device (6, 7, 8), which consists of a spring contact (7) (which is held at a distance from a suppressor contact (6) by means of a spacer (8) which softens at increased pressure) and which produces a DC connection between the electrodes (4, 5) of the overvoltage suppressor (1) in the event of the overvoltage protection device being overloaded. The spacer (8) consists of a plastic, preferably of a polycarbonate which softens at a temperature of 150-200 DEG C and contains approximately 10% glass fibres which prevent melting plastic contaminating the apparatus. The thermal protection device (6, 7, 8) has, on at least one of the contacts (6, 7), a coating consisting of a low-melting-point metal (9) or a low-melting-point metal alloy which melts when the electrical contact is produced and causes a highly conductive, permanent connection between the contacts. <IMAGE>

Eine Überspannungsschutzvorrichtung mit erhöhter Fehlersicherheit besteht aus einem einem an sich bekannten gasgefüllten Überspanungsableiter (1) und einer Thermoschutzvorrichtung (6, 7, 8), die aus einem Federkontakt (7), der durch einen bei erhöhter Temperatur erweichenden Abstandhalter (8) im Abstand von einem Ableiterkontakt (6) gehalten wird, besteht und die bei Überlastung der Überspannungsschutzvorrichtung eine galvanische Verbindung zwischen den Elektroden (4, 5) des Überspannungsableiters (1) herstellt. Der Abstandhalter (8) besteht aus einem Kunststoff, vorzugsweise aus einem Polycarbonat, der bei einer Temperatur von 150 - 200°C erweicht und ca. 10 % Glasfasern enthält, die verhindern, daß schmelzender Kunststoff die Apparatur verunreinigt. Die Thermoschutzvorrichtung (6, 7, 8) weist mindestens an einem der Kontakte (6, 7) einen Überzug aus einem leichtschmelzenden Metall (9) oder einer leichtschmelzenden Metallegierung auf, die bei Herstellung des elektrischen Kontaktes schmilzt und eine gut leitende, dauerhafte Verbindung zwischen den Kontakten bewirkt. <IMAGE>
