[origin: EP0548647A2] The invention relates to a method for the separation of tobacco parts consisting of tobacco rib pieces (rib pieces) from tobacco parts which consist of tobacco fibres that are stuck, agglomerated or folded together. <??>The invention resides in warming the tobacco fibres by passing in steam, as a result of which the tobacco fibres which are stuck, agglomerated or folded together are substantially detached from each other and opened. The tobacco parts thus steamed, warmed and possibly moistened are then subjected to a screen operation, in which the rib pieces are separated from the detached and opened tobacco fibres. <??>The advantage of the method according to the invention resides in the fact that the tobacco fibres, after they have been detached from each other and opened and separated from the rib pieces, are reused, so that the losses of expensive tobacco can be reduced. <IMAGE>
