[origin: WO9206156A1] The present invention provides a detergent composition comprising one or more anionic sulfate or sulfonate surfactants; one or more polyhydroxy fatty acid amides having formula (I) wherein R<1> is H, a C1-C4 hydrocarbyl, 2-hydroxy ethyl, 2-hydroxy propyl, or mixtures thereof, R<2> is a C5-C31 hydrocarbyl, and Z is a polyhydroxyhydrocarbyl having a linear hydrocarbyl chain with at least 3 hydroxyl groups directly connected to the chain, or an alkoxylated derivative thereof; and magnesium in a molar amount corresponding to 0.1X-2.0X, wherein X is the number of moles of anionic sulfate or sulfonate surfactant present in said composition. The present invention also provides for a method for cleaning soiled dishes by treating said dishes with the detergent compositions disclosed herein.
