[origin: EP0551833A1] The turning device for rail-bound vehicles permits, in particular, reversal of the direction of movement of successive rail-bound vehicles at a rapid rate. The device comprises a turntable (1), on which two stretches of rail (2a,b, 3a,b) cross one another at 90 DEG , a rail feeding stretch (4a,b) and a rail discharging stretch (5a,b) which are also at an angle of 90 DEG to one another. In the initial condition, a vehicle (10) travels over the rail feeding stretch to the turntable (1). The turntable (1) turns through 90 DEG and the vehicle (10) leaves the turntable (1) backwards on the rail discharging stretch (5a, b). While the first vehicle is leaving the turntable (1), a second vehicle may already be moving up to the turntable (1) over the rail feeding stretch (4a,b). The turntable (1) in each case turns in discrete steps through 90 DEG , always in the same direction of rotation. <IMAGE>
