[origin: EP0552396A1] Apparatus for cutting web material (20) in which blade (11) and anvil cylinder (12) cooperate, the blade cylinder (11) having a slot (15) in which a blade (14) equipped bar (16) is mounted with support for the bar from the bottom of the slot (15) offset a distance circumferentially from the blade (14) such that the cutting force (c) exerted on blade (14) and the offset bar (16) supporting force result in a torque (T) on the bar (16) clamping the blade (14) securely while actual cutting is taking place, the height of the cutting blade (14) being adjustable through the use of cooperating tapered surfaces on two components of the blade supporting bar (22,23) and in which friction means are operably associated with the blade to inhibit axial assembly of the blade. <IMAGE>
