[origin: FR2666447A1] The invention relates to image intensifier tubes, and more particularly radiological image intensifiers. In order to obtain a more uniform brilliance distribution of the output image for a uniform input illumination, the invention proposes interposition, between the scintillator layer (12) and the photocathode (16) of an intermediate layer (14) of radially variable thickness (in practice, thicker at the centre), made of a material which alters the brilliance as a function of its thickness. In practice, the intermediate layer may quite simply be the In2O3 electrode deposited under the photocathode, the thickness of this layer being radially variable in order to obtain the desired brilliance profile compensation. <IMAGE>
