[origin: EP0554821A1] An electrical connector (2) includes a fixed housing portion (4) a pivotal portion (6), when the fixed portion carries a plurality of electrical contacts (8) therein. The contacts have surface mount portions (42) at one end, cantilever beams (44) extending from the opposite end, where U-shaped contacts 46 extend from the cantilever beam portions (44). The connector (2) is mounted to one side of a printed circuit board (14) with a card receiving tray portion (65) mounted to the opposite side thereof. The U-shaped contacts extend down through the circuit board, through an opening (50) and into an opening (72) in the tray (65). The memory card (80) is insertable into the slot 80, to a position where the card (80) contacts the surfaces (25) causing a pivotal motion of the pivotal portion (6), the pivot portion (6) thereafter engaging the cantilever beam portions (44) moving the U-shaped contacts into engagement with traces (82) on the memory card (80). <IMAGE>
