A vacuum chamber furnace for the thermal treatment of metal workpieces has a heating chamber (13) which is located in a housing (1) and the walls of which have closable openings (14, 15) for the passage of a cooling gas stream. In order to extend the operating range of the furnace, the latter is pivotably mounted and a pivot drive (8) is arranged in order to pivot said furnace from a horizontal position into a vertical position, and vice versa. The heating chamber (13) can be heated both in the horizontal position and in the vertical position and the cooling gas stream can also pass through the heating chamber in both positions. <IMAGE>

Ein Vakuum-Kammerofen zur Wärmebehandlung von metallischen Werkstücken weist eine in einem Gehäuse (1) befindliche Heizkammer (13) auf, deren Wände verschließbare Öffnungen (14,15) zum Durchleiten eines Kühlgasstromes besitzen. Um den Betriebsbereich des Ofens zu erweitern ist dieser schwenkbar gelagert und zur Verschwenkung von einer horizontalen in eine vertikale Lage und umgekehrt ist ein Schwenkantrieb (8) angeordnet, wobei die Heizkammer (13) sowohl in der horizontalen als auch in der vertikalen Lage beheizbar und auch der Kühlgasstrom in beiden Lagen durch die Heizkammer leitbar ist. <IMAGE>
