[origin: EP0555521A1] Hydraulic valve clearance compensation element for the valve gear of an internal combustion engine, comprising an inner tappet (1) and an outer tappet (2) which are arranged in such a way that they can move relative to one another in the axial direction, the outer tappet (2) being formed by an essentially cup-shaped housing with a flat base and the inner tappet (1) and the outer tappet (2) delimiting an oil-filled storage space (3) of variable volume sealed off from the outside, enclosed in which is a displacement element (4) for compensating volume changes. The outer tappet (2) is formed by an essentially tubular, thermoplastic shell (7) with sliding surfaces (5, 6) radially on the inside and the outside, at least in part-areas, which shell is fluid-tightly closed in the direction of the camshaft (8) used by a disc (9) designed as an opposed-motion element. The inner sliding surface (5) surrounds the inner tappet (1), resting against this circumference in a fluid-tight manner. <IMAGE>
