The invention creates a self-latching device for protection of an apparatus, such as a discharge lamp with a low residual current. For this purpose, the device according to the invention has, in a manner known per se, a protection switch which opens the power supply of the apparatus in the event of overtemperature and is characterised in that a heating element is arranged in parallel with the apparatus and the protection switch, and a normally-open switch, which closes at the switching temperature of the protection switch, is arranged in series therewith. <IMAGE>

Die Erfindung schafft eine Vorrichtung mit Selbsthaltung zum Schutz eines Gerätes, wie einer Entladungslampe mit geringem Reststrom. Die erfindungsgemäße Vorrichtung weist hierzu in an sich bekannter Weise einen die Stromversorgung des Gerätes bei Übertemperatur öffnenden Schutzschalter aus und ist dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß parallel zum Gerät und zum Schutzschalter ein Heizelement und mit diesem in Reihe ein bei der Schalttemperatur des Schutzschalters schließender Schließschalter angeordnet ist. <IMAGE>
