[origin: EP0557753A2] The invention creates a self-latching device for protection of an apparatus, such as a discharge lamp with a low residual current. For this purpose, the device according to the invention has, in a manner known per se, a protection switch which opens the power supply of the apparatus in the event of overtemperature and is characterised in that a heating element is arranged in parallel with the apparatus and the protection switch, and a normally-open switch, which closes at the switching temperature of the protection switch, is arranged in series therewith. <IMAGE>
