A process for the preparation of ethylene oxide by oxidation of ethylene with oxygen in the presence of silver-containing and promoter-containing catalysts, wherein at least two silver catalysts of different selectivity and activity are used in a combined catalyst bed, in which the reaction mixture, on passing through the reactor, comes into contact with progressively more active and progressively less selective silver catalysts.

Verfahren zur Herstellung von Ethylenoxid durch die Oxidation von Ethylen mit Sauerstoff in Gegenwart silber- und promotorhaltiger Katalysatoren, wobei mindestens zwei Silberkatalysatoren unterschiedlicher Selektivität und Aktivität in einer kombinierten Katalysatorschüttung verwendet werden, in dem das Reaktionsgemisch beim Passieren des Reaktors mit zunehmend aktiveren und abnehmend selektiveren Silberkatalysatoren in Kontakt kommt.
