[origin: EP0558427A1] A safety helmet 10 with crown 12 includes a headband 32 with a strip which can be adjusted by means of a first inverter pinion mechanism 38 interacting with a first rack 42 and a second rack 44 which are disposed at the two opposite ends of the strip. A manoeuvring ring 46 is accessible from the outside in order to make adjustments with just one hand when the user is wearing the helmet 10. The double rack 42, 44 is arranged on the side of the crown 12 and permits perfect centring, independently of the size of the headband (head measurement). Application: speleology, mountaineering, construction sites, etc. <IMAGE>
