[origin: WO9305906A1] In order to produce improved films for application to a substrate without the need for additional devices for heating the substrate, the liquid is applied to the substrate in larger amounts than necessary for the formation of the coating. The excess liquid is drawn off and particularly re-used. The liquid is fed, by means of appropriate pressure control, on to the substrate in a laminar-flow stream at least in the contact zone between liquid and substrate. Described is a flow applicator (1) which, in addition, has a discharge channel (4) above the outlet channel (5). Between the input channel (2) and the discharge channel (4) is a channel (3) in the vicinity of which the excess liquid is used to heat the substrate (30).
