[origin: EP0559618A1] In hot-air fireplaces, the combustion space (3) is closed off with a height-adjustable plate (17). The supply of combustion air takes place exclusively through openings, which are assigned a controllable throttling arrangement. In order to prevent the uncontrolled inflow of external air into the combustion chamber (3), the vertically movable plate frame (4) is pressed tightly by pressing members against a stationary frame part (14). To this end, the plate frame (4) is mounted movably transversely to its wide side. As a result, it is possible to prevent the penetration of external air into the combustion chamber and to carry out an accurate proportioning in terms of time and quantity of the air supplied to the combustion chamber (3), with regard to a high degree of efficiency and waste gases which are as low as possible in harmful substances. <IMAGE>
