[origin: EP0560039A1] In a process for purifying gas obtained by gasification of carbonaceous material, the gas coming from the gasification plant is first subjected to a purification which comprises the following process stages: a) dedusting and removal of NH3 and HCN by scrubbing with circulating water at elevated pressure and elevated temperature, b) catalytic COS hydrolysis and c) H2S scrubbing. After the purification, the gas is to be used as fuel gas for the gas turbine of a power station. The hydrogen sulphide separated off from the gas during the purification is processed either to elemental sulphur or to sulphuric acid, whereas the nitrogen compounds which have been separated off are catalytically decomposed.
