[origin: EP0561206A2] An inductive hot plate heater is controlled and regulated by a multi-cycle controller (burst-firing controller) which uses a symmetrical pattern of complete mains half-cycles. Switching always takes place at the zero crossing and is balanced such that no DC voltage element is produced in the mains. It furthermore contains an optical temperature monitor for the plate (12) covering the hot plate, having an infrared photo-sensor (36) which determines the temperature on the basis of its predetermined spectral range. <IMAGE>
