Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0561317A2] An explosion-proof apparatus, especially a lamp, having a housing which has a housing lower part (11) and a housing upper part (60) which can be connected thereto, has a switch (12) which is accommodated in the housing and which, when it is opened, interrupts power-supply leads leading to electrical equipment located in the housing. In this case, the switch (12), which has an explosion-proof or flameproof switching-chamber space (21), is firmly connected to the housing lower part (11). In order to operate the switch, at least one operating plunger (30, 30a), which engages in a flameproof manner through in each case one hole (28, 29) in the switching-chamber space (21), is provided for switching contacts (24, 25) which are located in the interior of the switching-chamber space (21) which operating plunger (30, 30a) is connected to the housing upper part (60) and can be completely pulled out of the switch (12) when the housing upper part (60) is removed from the housing lower part (11). The length of the associated hole (28, 29) is dimensioned such that the flameproofing is maintained until the switching contacts (24, 25) are completely switched off. <IMAGE>
