[origin: WO9210861A1] A bipolar battery (10) having a plurality of cells (14) is disclosed. The bipolar battery (10) includes: a negative electrode (28); a positive electrode (25); and a separator element (40) disposed between the negative electrode (28) and the positive electrode (25) which insulates the electrodes from one another; an electrolyte disposed within at least one of the negative electrodes (28), the positive electrode (25) and the separator element (40) and an electrode containment structure including a cup-like electrode holder (38).
