Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9308499A1] A gradational liquid crystal display panel wherein a transparent first and a second base (1, 5) are so provided in parallel as to face each other with a liquid crystal (7) between, and a transparent common electrode (6) is provided on the inner surface of the second base (5), and further, display pixels arranged in a matrix and thin film transistors (8) formed adjacent to the respective display pixels are provided on the inner surface of the first base (1). A first and a second sub-pixel electrode (41?, 42?) are formed on the top surface of an insulation layer (15) formed on the inner surface of the first base (1), with a gap (GP) between them. A control capacitor electrode (2) is so formed on the under surface of the insulation layer (15) as to cover the gap region (GP) and overlap the sub-pixel electrodes (41?, 42?) in predetermined areas, and thereby, the first sub-pixel electrode (41?), the control capacitor electrode (2) and the second sub-pixel electrode (42?) constitute respectively a first, a second and a third liquid crystal capacitor (CLC1?, CLC2?, CLC3?) together with the common electrode (6) opposed to them. The first sub-pixel electrode (41?) is connected to the control capacitor electrode (2) by a first control capacitor (CC1?), and the control capacitor electrode (2) is connected to the second sub-pixel electrode (42?) by a second control capacitor (CC2?). A drain electrode (8D) of the thin film transistor is connected to the first sub-pixel electrode (41?).
