[origin: EP0562245A1] An awning (1) has an elongate awning casing (2) in which a winding shaft (6) is rotatably mounted. The awning casing (2) is provided with an awning-canvas slot (11) which continues over the entire length of the casing and through which the awning canvas (7) runs. It has a cylindrical outer configuration and the opening-out rail (8) has, likewise on its outer side, a cross-section in the form of an arc of a circle, to be precise such that, when the awning (1) is in the retracted state, said rail engages over the two edges of the awning-canvas slot (11) from the outside. <IMAGE>
