In the case of a press (1) for compacting unwieldy goods having a pressing ram (5) which is arranged so as to be vertically adjustable in a pressing casing (2), forms the sealing lid of the pressing chamber (4) and is articulated to a beam (8) which can be displaced vertically on a column (7) by means of a servo mechanism (10), the pressing ram (8) can be pivoted about a horizontally aligned axis and a holding element (31) is provided to stop the said ram during a pressing cycle, which holding element can be releasably coupled to a supporting element (41) which is connected to the beam (8). This design not only ensures that the pressing chamber (4) can be easily filled, but also that the pressing ram (5) does not protrude beyond the projected surface of the press and in particular that accidents arising during operation of the press (1) are avoided to a substantial extent without special safety measures being necessary. <IMAGE>

Bei einer Presse (1) zum Verdichten von sperrigen Gütern mit einem in einem Pressengehäuse (2) vertikal verstellbar angeordneten Pressenstempel (5), der den Verschlußdeckel des Preßraumes (4) bildet und an einem mittels einer Servoeinrichtung (10) auf einer Säule (7) vertikal verschiebbar geführten Holm (8) angelenkt ist, ist der Pressenstempel (8) um eine horizontal gerichtete Achse verschwenkbar und zu dessen Arretierung während eines Preßvorganges ist ein Halteglied (31) vorgesehen, das mit einem mit dem Holm (8) verbundenen Stützglied (41) lösbar koppelbar ist. Durch diese Ausgestaltung wird nicht nur erreicht, daß der Preßraum (4) gut zu befüllen ist, sondern auch, daß der Pressenstempel (5) über die projezierte Fläche der Presse nicht hinausragt und daß vor allem Unfälle, ohne daß besondere Sicherungsmaßnahmen erforderlich sind, beim Bedienen der Presse (1) weitgehend vermieden werden. <IMAGE>
