[origin: EP0562465A1] The door closer has a fluid-damped piston (32) which is movable in a housing (21) counter to a spring force (5, 6) and which subdivides the housing (21) into two pressure spaces (10, 11). A flow channel (45) connects the two pressure spaces (10, 11). Arranged in the flow channel (45) is a valve (30) which determines both the opening damping and the closing speed of the door closer. A door closer which is simpler to produce and simpler to adjust is thereby obtained. <IMAGE>
