[origin: EP0563645A1] The invention relates to a safety device for running webs, in particular to avoid stopping and coiling in rotary printing machines, having a cutting knife (8, 19) which can be pivoted into the region of the web path. In order to design a device of this type in such a way that with simple technical means both free access to the cutting knife is prevented and unimpeded conducting-away of the cut-off web from the region of an assembly which is in each case at risk due to stopping and coiling is achieved, the cutting knife with its holder is an integral constituent of a two-part covering (6, 9) whose guard which projects in the direction of the web path covers the cutting edge of the subsequent guard functioning as the cutting knife on the operating side, and the latter guard exposes a run-out gap (17) towards the projecting guard in the cutting position for the cut-off running web and thereby serves as a conducting surface for the web. <IMAGE>
