[origin: EP0563770A1] An electronic ballast for operating at least one fluorescent lamp in explosion-proof or flame-proof lamps, having a resonant circuit which is formed from an inductance (which is constructed as a limiting inductor) and a capacitance which is connected in parallel with the fluorescent lamp and alternately drives two controllable switches so that, once the oscillation of the resonant circuit has started, this circuit automatically continues to oscillate, as a result of which the resonant voltage applied to the capacitance starts the lamp, having a further capacitance, which is arranged in the resonant circuit and is connected in series with the fluorescent lamp and the capacitance, the further capacitance (C11) being constructed in the form of a safe capacitor, and the entire ballast being potted in potting resin. <IMAGE>
