A method for starting a continuous-casting installation, in which a metallic melt is poured in a controlled manner through a bottom outlet opening (2), closable by means of a computer-controlled plug (3), of a launder or a tundish (1) into a continuous casting mould (5) plugged by a stopping and withdrawing head or a dummy bar chain and the withdrawal of the strand is begun automatically when a predetermined molten metal level is reached and the further progress of the continuous casting process is subject to control with reference to the molten metal level, in which, for the filling of the continuous casting mould, the plug (3) is moved out of its closing position by a first upward movement, freeing the bottom outlet opening (2). After the molten metal level in the mould (5) has risen to a predetermined level or signal plane (I) under a measuring section (6) within which the continuous casting process is subject to control with reference to the molten metal level, the plug (3) is moved into the closed position and held in this position for a first predetermined time (tv) sufficient for the molten metal to bond to the stopping and withdrawing head or dummy bar chain. The plug (3) then performs a second upward movement to free the bottom outlet opening (2) again until the molten metal has reached the measuring section (6), either directly or after renewed closure of the bottom outlet opening for a second predetermined plug closure time (tc). <IMAGE>

Verfahren zum Anfahren einer Stranggießanlage, bei dem eine metallische Schmelze durch eine mittels eines rechnergesteuerten Stopfens (3) verschließbare Bodenausflußöffnung (2) einer Verteilerrinne oder eines Zwischengefäßes (1) geregelt in eine mit einem Anfahrkopf bzw. einer Kaltkette verschlossene Stranggießkokille (5) gegossen wird und nach Erreichen einer vorbestimmten Badspiegelhöhe automatisch mit dem Strangabzug begonnen und das weitere Stranggießen einer Badspiegelregelung unterworfen wird, wobei zum Füllen der Stranggießkokille der Stopfen (3) mit einer ersten Aufwärtsbewegung aus seiner Schließstellung die Bodenausflußöffnung (2) freigibt. Nach Anstieg des Badspiegels in der Kokille (5) auf eine vorbestimmte Höhe bzw. Signalebene (I) unterhalb einer Meßstrecke (6), innerhalb der das Stranggießen der Badspiegelregelung unterworfen ist, wird der Stopfen (3) in Schließstellung bewegt und in dieser Stellung für eine erste vorbestimmte Zeit (tV) gehalten, die zur Anbindung der Schmelze am Anfahrkopf bzw. an der Kaltkette genügt. Dann gibt der Stopfen (3) mit einer zweiten Aufwärtsbewegung die Bodenausflußöffnung (2) erneut frei, bis die Schmelze die Meßstrecke (6) erreicht hat, und zwar entweder unmittelbar oder nach erneuter Schließung der Bodenausflußöffnung für eine zweite vorbestimmte Stopfenschließzeit (tC). <IMAGE>
