[origin: WO9211870A1] A method of inhibiting activated neutrophil-mediated damage to the gut, liver, brain, skin, kidneys, or lungs of a mammal resulting from blood loss followed by transfusion, the method involving administering to the mammal, at the time of or following said transfusion, an organ damage-inhibiting amount of an antibody capable of binding to the CD11b subunit of the neutrophil integrin Mo1, and being substantially incapable of binding to the CD18 subunit of Mo1.

L'invention se rapporte à un procédé qui sert à inhiber les lésions que la neutrophile activée risque de causer aux intestins, au foie, au cerveau, à la peau, aux reins ou aux poumons d'un mammifère lors d'une perte de sang suivie d'une transfusion. Ce procédé consiste à administrer au mammifère, au moment de la transfusion ou après la transfusion, une quantité suffisante pour inhiber les lésions de ces organes d'un anticorps qui est capable de se lier à la sous-unité CD11b de l'intégrine Mo1 de la neutrophile, mais qui est incapable de se lier à la sous-unité CD18 de l'intégrine Mo1.
