Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0565837A1] The envelopes of different dimensions, opened along three edges, specifically one long and two short edges, are conveyed, standing on one of the opened long edges, to a removal apparatus in which the two sides (U and V) of the envelope are deflected to left and right by about 90 DEG . The envelope content (Z) is conveyed out of the removal apparatus in a straight line. The removal apparatus is formed by two suction cylinders (25, 26) arranged standing next to the envelope to left and right which, controlled by a sensor (27), grip the envelope sides, deflect them through about 90 DEG and so separate them from the envelope content (U, V). The envelope is then ejected at one side, the unopened short edge at the rear supporting the linear movement of the content out of the apparatus. The third cutting mechanism (23) for the lower long edge forms a compact structural unit together with the suction cylinders (25, 26) and the other rotationally driven parts of the removal apparatus. All parts are advantageously driven by a common drive. The apparatus is compactly constructed and permits completely automatic removal of the envelope content (Z). The operation can readily be visually monitored. <IMAGE>
