Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0567092A2] A rig for a sailboat is described, consisting of a mast (3) firmly connected to the vessel (2) and of a sail (1) which, as an aerodynamic propulsion and lift surface, is mounted in such a way as to be pivotable, tiltable and rotatable about the longitudinal, transverse and vertical axis. According to the invention, provision is made for the sail (1) to be connected on a sail spar (6) with linear guidance via a linear bearing (19) and a pivot bearing (7) to the mast (3) in such a way that it is pivoted via the same to the respective lee side of the vessel (2) and is lowered there on account of its own weight. The aerodynamic pressure point is therefore always located below the longitudinal axis of the pivot bearing (7). The sail (1) lifts automatically when the wind increases and thus exerts a lifting action on the entire sailboat. <IMAGE>
