Abstract (en)
In the thermal conversion of organic matter, esp. synthetics, to a gas contg. CO and H2, e.g. for syntheses, the organic matter is fed to a self-consuming fixed bed at above 900 deg.C, esp. white hot, consisting of solid pieces of C and/or highly condensed hydrocabrons, esp. coke and treated with O2 and steam, the gas mixt. together with the gaseous reaction prods. is draw through the bed, and the organic matter is heated by an additional heater, e.g. with a burner. The organic matter is gasified with O2 at a ratio of combined and uncombined 1/2O2:C of over 1:1(2-15:1), the solid and/or pasty organic matter and the solid pieces are fed over separate baffles, and the O2-contg. gas, contg. at least 80 (at least 90) vols.% of O2, is fed into the reactor under pressure, with a pressure of at least 5 bars (25-50 bars) being maintained in the reactor. The gas is at 1,500-1,650 deg.C at the inlet to the gasification zone, and 1,000-1,100 deg.C at the outlet, and leaves the reactor at 20-50 bars. The temp. of the bed at the gas outlet is pref. held at at least 800 (850-950) deg.C. After leaving the reactor, the gas passes a solids sepn. esp. a cyclone dust sepn. and after the outlet, esp. from the dust separator, the gas is cooled in a heat-exchanger, esp. a nest of tubes exchanger, esp. to 200 deg.C, or is colled to 400-600 (500-600) deg.C, and then cooled with water to satn. temp. in a quencher. The gas is pref. washed esp. with water and purified by absorption, esp. after washing.

<IMAGE>
