[origin: EP0567727A1] An actuator is proposed which is embodied as a combination of a pneumatic working cylinder (1) with a hydraulic fluid brake cylinder (2). The pneumatic working cylinder (1) has a cylinder housing (3) with an actuating piston (12) arranged therein. The actuating piston (12) is connected to an output part (17) led out of the cylinder housing (3). The hydraulic fluid brake cylinder (2) has a displacing piston (34) which is arranged in an axially movable manner in a brake housing (25) and acts there upon a hydraulic fluid to be displaced. The actuating piston (12) and the displacing piston (34) are kinetically coupled via a driving device (39). Since the driving device (39) acts in the radial direction through the peripheral wall (5) of the cylinder housing (3), a compact arrangement is obtained at low transverse loading of the actuating piston (12) and the output part (17). <IMAGE>
