[origin: EP0567894A1] An apparatus for guiding a workpiece or tool when clear-grinding or polishing aspherical or spherical surfaces of contact lenses, comprising a chuck (2) and an axially movable centre sleeve (1) on which the chuck (2) is fastened. The chuck (2) contains a pressure-medium chamber (12) which is sealed by the diaphragm-type arrangement of a U-type bellows (8), which does not yield in the peripheral direction, with lens or tool carrier (10). The centre sleeve (1) can be moved by a pressure-medium cylinder and piston arrangement (26, 27) which is arranged coaxially thereto. The pressure-medium chambers of the chuck (2) and pressure-medium cylinder and piston arrangement (26, 27) are connected to one another and can be acted upon at the same time by the pressure medium. <IMAGE>
