[origin: EP0568157A1] A direct-acting hydraulic valve-lifter (10) features in a preferred embodiment a follower (15) assembled with a thin wall metal shell (18) and a light plastics baffle (19) to support a lash-adjusting hydraulic element assembly (16). An inlet riser chamber (38) has sufficient cross-section to minimize oil flow restriction in cold oil conditions. Dead space between the shell (18) and the baffle (19) is filled with a strong lightweight foam (20) to support and retain the baffle (19) and to displace oil for low mass. <IMAGE>
