Abstract (en)
A safety device for a generic steam-operated smoothing iron comprises a body with a reservoir (45) of water or of similar liquid and an electrical connection socket or the like (46) as well as a handle mounted pivotably on the said body and forming a stopper for the said reservoir (45). The device comprises retention means (44) fixed to the body and a locking means (36) mounted fixedly relative to the handle in order to lock the handle on the body. In a first position corresponding to the locking of the handle on the body and the closing of the reservoir (44) by the handle (18), the locking means (36) exposes the space adjacent to the electrical connection socket (46) so as to allow the electrical supply of the smoothing iron. In a second position corresponding to the release of the handle from the body and to the opening of the water reservoir, the locking means (36) closes off the space adjacent to the electrical connection socket (46) so as to prevent the electrical supply of the smoothing iron. <IMAGE>
