[origin: EP0569025A2] The fire fighting device contains a solid charge (6) of an aerosol-forming compound, which is accommodated in the casing (1) with formation of a free space (7) in the latter, which free space (7) has a volume of at least 30% of the contents of the solid charge (6) and also contains a cooling means (3) for cooling the combustion products, which cooling means (3) has a layer of heat-absorbing material which may take the form of bulk material, a bundle of a multiplicity of tubes or a monobloc (17) with passages (8). The automatic fire fighting system includes fire fighting apparatuses (24), a temperature transmitter (28) a main and reserve power source (25) and a quick-acting time fuse (33).
