[origin: EP0570763A1] In the washing device for the printing unit of printing machines, at least one metering pump (14) takes in liquid from a reservoir (11, 12) and conveys said liquid to at least one nozzle beam (6, 7, 8). At least one nozzle beam is provided for each printing unit (1, 2, 3). Located in the liquid connection between the pump and the intermediate store is a distributor line (52, 52/2) and, downstream thereof, a controlled on-off valve (62, 63..., 62/2, 63/2...). The upstream beginning (50, 50/2) of the distributor line (52, 52/2) is connected to the outlet of the metering pump (14, 14/2) and the downstream end of the distributor line can be closed selectively via a counter-pressure valve or can be opened towards the liquid reservoir (11, 12). As a result, liquid can be conveyed selectively by the pump to the intermediate store, or the pressure on the distributor line into the liquid reservoir can be relieved. <IMAGE>
