[origin: EP0570880A2] A gripper for storage containers which can be stacked one on top of the other consists of a support frame (1) with a horizontally orientated holding beam (2) and a supporting beam (3) parallel to the holding beam (2). In this arrangement, the holding beam (2) can be placed against the front side of the container (5) right below the top container rim (6), and the supporting beam (3) can be placed against the lower area of the container wall (8). Furthermore, two catches (4) are pivotably mounted on the frame (1) above the holding beam (2). When the gripper approaches the container (5), the catches (4), with a common catch beam (10), automatically snap into place on the top container rim (6). To take hold of and transport the container, the gripper thus requires only one front side, so that several containers can be stored close beside one another in the rack. A special locking mechanism additionally ensures that undesirable disengagement of the holding catches during the transport is avoided. <IMAGE>
