Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0571322A1] The crimping apparatus has a crimping nozzle with a conveying channel, with a nozzle outlet orifice and with a guide fork consisting of two guide elements (5.2, 6.2), and a plug-conveying roller (1) with two perforated lateral guide means (2) extending in parallel around its circumference. The crimping nozzle and plug-conveying roller (1) are arranged in such a way that a compression chamber (7) is formed in a plug-forming region following the nozzle outlet orifice of the conveying channel by means of the two lateral guide means (2) and the two guide elements (5.2, 6.2) of the guide fork. The thread is driven through the conveying channel by means of a conveying medium under pressure, the conveying medium expanding when it escapes from the nozzle outlet orifice. In order to guarantee an escape of the conveying medium on all sides, which is as rapid and uniform as possible, and a minimum frictional surface between the plug and stationary elements limiting the compression chamber, the guide elements (5.2, 6.2) of the guide fork are provided as a series of mutually spaced dividing elements, the interspaces of which extend parallel to the direction of movement of the plug. <IMAGE>
