[origin: EP0571324A1] The nipper set possesses a nipper frame (5) which carries a lower-nipper plate (6). Upper-nipper arms (8) mounted pivotably on the nipper frame (5) carry an upper-nipper plate (7), the lower edge of which cooperates with the front edge of the lower-nipper plate (6) for clamping a lap to be combed. Pivoting arms (12), which are connected pivotably to the nipper frame (5), carry a fibre-supporting element (13), over the top side of which the lap to be combed runs. The pivoting arms (12) are coupled to the upper-nipper arms (8) in such a way that, with the nipper set closed, they hold the fibre-supporting element (13) in a retracted position above the lower-nipper plate (6) and pivot into a front position when the nipper set is opened. In this front position, the fibre-supporting element (13) extends forwards and upwards beyond the front edge of the lower-nipper plate (6), so that it supports, directly behind a fixed comb (22), a fibre tuft which is torn off from the lap through the needles (21) of the fixed comb (22) by the tearing-off cylinders (2, 3). The fibre tuft is thereby combed out more completely by the fixed comb (22). <IMAGE>
