In an installation for smelting metal, in particular nonferrous metal, a holding furnace (12) is arranged next to a smelting furnace (1). In order to maintain flexibility in the operation of the smelting furnace (1) and of the holding furnace (12), the smelting furnace (1) and the holding furnace (12) are separate subassemblies which can be moved independently of one another. Bei einer Einrichtung zum Schmelzen von Metall, insbesondere NE-Metall, ist neben einem Schmelzofen (1) ein Warmhalteofen (12) angeordnet. Um die Betriebsmöglichkeiten des Schmelzofens (1) und des Warmhalteofens (12) flexibel zu gestalten, sind der Schmelzofen (1) und der Warmhalteofen (12) getrennte, unabhängig voneinander bewegbare Baugruppen. Im Überleitbereich zwischen dem Schmelzofen (1) und dem Warmhalteofen (12) ist eine Kupplungsvorrichtung (11, 17, 18) vorgesehen. <IMAGE>
