Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0571852A1] A diagnosis device for a wheel set for monitoring railway vehicles passing by is described, which is characterised in that a cavity which extends parallel to the sleeper is provided in a measuring sleeper or in a hollow track sleeper (11), in which cavity IR deflection units and at least one IR reception unit (15) are accommodated, which units permit, in contrast with previously known technologies, all the heat sources present in the region of the wheel set and on the underside of the vehicle to be monitored and, at the same time, provide the greatest possible degree of protection against mechanical and electrical influences. The wheel pressure and acceleration measuring devices which were first introduced in conjunction with the invented wheel set diagnosis device permit precise determination of the variables, such as wheel position, wheel weight and tread quality of the wheel, which are absolutely necessary to relativise the IR measurement results. <IMAGE>
