[origin: EP0573756A2] In the incineration of waste in waste incinerators having grate firing and co-current conduction of the flue gas, the degree of combustion of the ash is to be further improved. An increase in the primary air through the grate and thus larger grate surface areas are no longer possible. Additional appliances, such as a downstream rotary tube for ash treatment are complex to install and operate. The ash is brought into contact with hot, oxygen-containing flue gas in an ash combustion appliance (7) and is exposed to the radiant heat of the flue gas. <IMAGE>
