[origin: DE4107316C1] The invention concerns a process for knitting tubular fabric on a straight knitting machine with two main and two auxiliary needle boards plus a racking mechanism. In order to produce simply, in a single operation, simultaneously with the actual knitting process, a ridgeless linking seam for a closed or open end, an edge stitch is transferred from each main needle board (A and B) to the respective auxiliary needle boards (a and b) to finish off the fabric, the needle boards are racked with respect to each other, the stitch is transferred back from each auxiliary needle board (a and b) to the respective main needle boards (A and B), and needles knit the stitches which were transferred back.
