[origin: EP0575888A1] The invention relates to a clamping device comprising a fork-shaped head piece (1) with a clamping arm (2) which is mounted pivotably thereon and is hinged to the piston rod (5) via an intermediate element (3) and an articulated piece (4) on the end of the piston rod (5) of an operating cylinder (6) which is arranged on the head piece (1) and in cross section is flatly oval-shaped. In order to achieve the object, namely of improving or simplifying a clamping device of the generic type to such an extent that the articulated piece can be attached directly to the piston rod, i.e. without a right-left adapter, while at the same time ruling out the possibility of the piston twisting with the risk of the piston seizing as a consequence, according to the invention it is provided, in combination, that the articulated piece (4) is arranged directly at the end (5') of the piston rod (5), the piston rod (5) is axially fixed to the flatly oval-shaped piston (7) in the correspondingly flatly oval-shaped operating cylinder (6) but connected in such a manner that it can be rotated and sealed, and a stationary or adjustable end-position stop (8) is arranged on the head piece (1). <IMAGE>
