[origin: EP0576692A1] The invention relates to an image intensifier having a vacuum housing (1), an input fluorescent screen (3), electron optics (5) and an image sensor (6 to 10) which is fitted on the opposite side of the vacuum housing (1) to the input fluorescent screen (3), and within said vacuum housing (1). An indium tin oxide (ITO) protective layer (11) which brakes the incident electrons (4) is applied to that side of the image sensor (6 to 10) which faces the input fluorescent screen (3). <IMAGE>
