[origin: EP0576964A1] A cutting and shaping press has one or more drive cylinders 17. The piston rod (19) of each individual drive cylinder is connected to a toggle joint drive 28 for a press slide 2. The drive cylinder 17 is fastened to a bridge 5 which connects two sliding plates 18 to one another. The said sliding plates are arranged in the interior of the press slides 2 and each have at their centres one guide 7 for a multi-joint support 16. The press slide 2 is open at the top in the direction of the drive cylinder 17 and slides via its surfaces, which are laterally enclosed on all sides, along guides 14, 15 which are mounted in a stable fashion on the inside of a pressing stand 1. <IMAGE>
