[origin: EP0577230A1] A folding device for machines for folding documents and inserting them into envelopes, by means of which a double fold or a single fold can be carried out for different document formats (7) by the folding-flap principle, has stops (9) for adjusting the documents and a slide plate (2) which has a driver block (3) and conveys the documents along a folding plate into an envelope. The folding plate (5) bears a deflection strip (4) which serves as rolling path for the slide plate. The folding plate is, moreover, equipped with an oblique run-in portion (6) which ensures reliable running of the driver block in the direction of insertion into an envelope. The driver block has wedge-shaped edges which make it possible for the slide plate to run back reliably into the starting position. <IMAGE>
