Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0577232A1] The invention relates to a method for the operation of a multi-strand horizontal continuous casting machine and to a multi-strand horizontal continuous casting installation. In order to be able to accommodate as large as possible a number of casting streams when casting strands of relatively small cross-sectional area from relatively large quantities of melt in a very restricted space, to improve the temperature profile of the melt in the distributor and to reduce the expenditure on equipment, it is proposed that, in the event of malfunctions in one mould, the strand in the mould concerned is, by actuating the associated clamping device in the strand withdrawal direction, connected frictionally, although only if there is at least one backward thrust movement, to one of two clamping devices, and the second clamping device used to deliver the strand is disengaged from the strand during the withdrawal stroke. The installation is designed such that the distributor (10), with a number of pouring elements (14) arranged in the side wall (11) of the distributor (10), the number corresponding to the number of strands to be produced, is assigned to a mould (42, 43, 45), the moulds (42, 43, 45) are combined to form a mould block (40) in apertures of the housing (41) of the mould block (40), and the axes (49) of the apertures of the housing (41) are in alignment with the axes (15) of the pouring openings (14) of the distributor (10).
