[origin: WO9217296A1] The invention relates to a process for casting metals, especially alloys with a low melting point, in which the liquid metal is introduced into a mould (3) from below via a casting channel (4) and an inlet aperture (5) arranged at the lowest position of the mould (3), and a device for implementing this process. The direct further use of the casting (7) with the avoidance of the formation of a moulding sprue requiring further processing is made possible in that, after the mould (3) has been filled and the metal in the mould (3) has only partly solidified, the moulding pressure is reduced or released so that liquid metal can flow back out of the mould only via a backflow channel (13), the cross-section of which is substantially smaller than that of the casting channel (4) and in that a plunger, the face (20) of which has the size and shape of the outer contour of the moulding (7) in the region of the inlet aperture (5), is moved at least over the final section (16) of the casting channel (4), pushing the liquid metal in this section into the mould (3), until the face (20) of the plunger (18) adjoins the inner surface of the mould (3).
