[origin: EP0577863A1] So that when rotor damage occurs in a centrifuge the expected effects of the damage can be at least limited to the extent that no particles with a diameter of more than 1.5 mm escape from the safety region of the centrifuge, namely a zone with a depth of 30 cm surrounding the said centrifuge, a housing is proposed with a lid to which a special locking mechanism which is separated from a closing mechanism is assigned. The locking mechanism is characterised by a plurality of radially displaceable bolts (19) which are arranged distributed uniformly over the circumference of the lid (3) and interact with locking clips (22, 23) which are attached to the lid (3) or to a part of the housing. In order to actuate all the bolts (19) synchronously, a control cam (14) which is provided with circular arc-shaped oblong holes is provided, a radial movement of the bolts (19) in accordance with the rotation of the control cam (14) taking place by means of pins, running rollers or the like which are attached to the ends of the bolts (19) and interact with the oblong holes. In the event of damage, the forces acting on the lid are thus transmitted uniformly to the housing via a number of bolts (19) so that the lid is held in a secure fashion which virtually avoids external effects of the damage. <IMAGE>
